Sixty children and their parents came together for the Baskets for Babies event hosted by Kids Give Back. This was a day filled with purpose and unity as they worked towards a common goal - assembling 75 boxes filled with essential baby supplies for low-income, expectant parents. The children's enthusiasm was palpable as they got to work.
They wrapped cardboard boxes with festive paper, transforming them into beautiful packages. Inside these boxes, they carefully placed a wide array of items for newborns. From clothing that would keep the little ones warm to hand-made blankets and hats by a local knitters group, every item was chosen with love and care. First aid kits, towels, washcloths, bibs, bottles, pacifiers, socks, and infant Tylenol were also included. It was a sight to behold as these young volunteers dedicated their time to making a positive impact.
Not only did the children assemble boxes for the babies, but they also took the time to create gifts for the new moms. Their thoughtfulness knew no bounds as they showed empathy and kindness towards those in need. This event was not just about assembling items; it was about teaching children the value of giving and helping others.
The boxes assembled by these children will now be distributed by the Fairfax County Department of Family Services, reaching those who truly need it. It is through such acts of kindness that we can create a better world for future generations.
Annandale High School student Tyson Perkins spoke about the event on WJLA’s “Good Morning Washington” with Kids Give Back Executive Director Denise Gavilan. Tyson has been volunteering with Kids Give Back for the past three years and shared his heartfelt experience.
"I really love it because I get to give back. It’s really great to see that we’re making such a big impact on people that need the help," he said. His words echoed the spirit of the event and inspired others to get involved.
Executive Director Denise Gavilan also emphasized the importance of such initiatives. She founded the organization to expand volunteer opportunities for kids and create fun events that promote teamwork and leadership. Through Kids Give Back, children learn valuable life skills while making a difference in the lives of others.
