In Donalsonville, Georgia, a community has come together in a remarkable display of unity and compassion. Last week, 5-year-old Stephen Emmett Houston was tragically hit and killed by a car while crossing the street from the family's barn. This heart-wrenching event has left the Houston family in a state of shock, as they struggle to come to terms with their loss.

A Community's Journey of Healing and Support After a Tragedy

The Father's Perspective

Stephen Houston Jr., Emmett's father, shared his feelings during this difficult time. "We're still in shock. It's like it's a dream one minute and it's all too real the next minute." His words reflect the raw emotion that the family is experiencing. Loved ones say they have been leaning on their faith, as they find strength in their belief in Jesus Christ. "He was strong, he was smart, and he was beautiful," Houston said.

The Community's Response

The community has shown an outpouring of support for the Houston family. Emmett's daycare has been making bows and displaying them all over town in his honor. The green and yellow colors of the bows are a nod to Emmett's love for all things John Deere. "He was all things John Deere and that's why we decided to show the family how much support they have from our community, that were going to paint our town yellow and green," said Andrea Lambert, Emmett's daycare teacher. These bows serve as a visual reminder of the love and support that the community has for the family.

The Church's Involvement

The Houston's church family is also sharing their support. Emmett attended both First Baptist Church of Donalsonville and Grace Church in Bainbridge. "Emmett was quiet but emulated light and love. You just had to know him to experience it. All of God's love wrapped up in a 5-year-old little boy," said Grace Church member Chelcee Crews. The church community has been a source of comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time.

The Daycare's Donation Drive

In addition to the bows, Emmett's daycare is also taking donations to help the family. This shows the community's commitment to supporting the Houston family in any way they can. As they navigate through this tragedy, the support of the community means a great deal to them.
