For every forecast prediction in our 10 pm newscasts this December, if our meteorologist is within three degrees, we’ll make a generous donation of $50 to Give-A-Kid. This non-profit has been a pillar in serving the Holt community for an impressive 40 years. Let's take a look inside their operation as they gear up for the holiday season.
Give-A-Kid's 40-Year Journey
"Give-A-Kid started its remarkable journey in 1984," said President Tim Currin. Over the past four decades, this organization has been a lifeline for thousands of families in need. In 2023 alone, they assisted over 3,100 kids. Through a diverse range of programs like Give-A-Kid a Coat, Give-A-Kid a Christmas, Give-A-Kid 360, Give-A-Kid a Suitcase, and Give-A-Kid a Backpack, they meet the children's needs throughout the year. Currently, they are in full swing preparing for Christmas. "We'll be serving around 700 kids, perhaps even more during this festive time," Currin shared.Volunteers are hard at work packing boxes filled with delightful toys such as Barbies and Monopoly games. "We pack them neatly in a box, and then the parents receive it along with wrapping paper, enabling them to take these precious gifts home," explained volunteer Sandy Wriggelsworth.Wriggelsworth, a retired Holt Public Schools 4th-grade teacher, finds volunteering with Give-A-Kid to be incredibly meaningful. "This truly seemed like the perfect fit for me."Thanks to our 3-Degree Partnership with FOX 47, we are able to support Give-A-Kid in continuing its noble mission. "Partnering with FOX 47 is an exhilarating adventure for all of us," said Currin. He further emphasized that these donations will have a significant impact. "The money we receive from FOX 47 will be used to purchase 10, 15, or 20 shopping carts of coats, ensuring we are well-prepared for the following year."Want to stay updated with more local news?
