Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled its revamped 2027 EQS electric sedan, showcasing significant internal enhancements beneath a familiar exterior. This updated iteration features an innovative 800-volt electrical system, a larger capacity battery, and newly designed electric motors. Anticipated to hit the United States market in the latter half of 2026, this model aims to redefine the electric luxury segment with its improved performance and efficiency. The German automotive giant confirmed that a substantial portion of the EQS, specifically over 25 percent of its components, have either been newly developed, refined, or significantly updated. Among these crucial upgrades is an expanded battery, growing from 118 kilowatt-hours to 122 kWh, alongside the integration of a novel two-speed rear-axle transmission. Furthermore, the introduction of proprietary electric motors marks a pivotal shift in the vehicle's propulsion system, optimizing power delivery and overall efficiency. These changes collectively contribute to a more robust and responsive electric drive.
A key highlight of the new EQS is its upgraded electrical architecture, moving from a 400-volt system to a more advanced 800-volt setup. The base EQS 450+ model is expected to deliver an estimated range of up to 575 miles according to the European WLTP cycle. The exterior boasts a refreshed front-end design, a sculpted powerdome hood, and refined lighting elements that contribute to a modern and sophisticated aesthetic. The standard model features a distinctive black grille with a star pattern that illuminates, complemented by wide chrome accents. For those opting for the AMG Line, a unique backlit star grille without chrome and an illuminated central Mercedes star offer a more aggressive and personalized look. Inside, the cabin retains the impressive MBUX Hyperscreen as standard, alongside optional features like steer-by-wire technology, complete with a yoke-style steering wheel and heated seatbelts, enhancing both control and comfort.
